- One of the newer lodges in the region, bringing South African safari style luxury to the Okavango Delta
Xigera Safari Lodge (pronounced “keejera”) stands as one of Botswana’s most remarkable safari retreats, designed to immerse guests in the beauty of the Okavango Delta. Located within the Moremi Game Reserve on a private concession, Xigera offers a more varied and adventurous experience, drawing deeply on the Delta’s landscapes and celebrating the artistry of Southern African creators.
During the annual floods, Xigera transforms into a paradise of shimmering lagoons and reed-lined channels, offering guests the chance to explore this water-rich landscape by mokoro canoe, on double-decker boat cruises, or with catch-and-release fishing. Beyond water-based activities, guests can also enjoy game drives and walking safaris, allowing for a balanced, all-encompassing safari experience. Combining a stay at Xigera with time at a dry-area lodge within the Delta is highly recommended for those seeking an extensive encounter with Botswana’s wildlife.
Reopened in late 2020 with a new vision, Xigera infuses its safari experience with South African design elements, blending traditional safari adventure with high-end culinary and cultural offerings. The lodge features 12 spacious suites, each 184 square meters, situated across two islands and designed to showcase the Delta’s vibrant colors. Each suite is individually styled with unique decor, complete with complimentary Wi-Fi, which is rare in Botswana, especially in such remote locations. Designed for ultimate relaxation, the suites include a separate bedroom and lounge area, a private shaded deck, and modern amenities such as air-conditioning, bathtubs, indoor and outdoor showers, mini-bars, yoga mats, and even televisions.
Xigera’s main area further reflects this blend of connection and comfort. Guests can enjoy a gourmet dining experience with an open-plan kitchen and a wine cellar, allowing them to witness the culinary craft firsthand. The lodge also features a wellness center, Technogym, daily yoga classes, and a boutique with local artisan items. In winter, the pool is heated for year-round enjoyment, and guests can attend specialist talks on various subjects, including astronomy, for an even richer experience. For those who seek a touch of adventure, Xigera also offers the chance to sleep in its one-of-a-kind Baobab Treehouse. With adjustable canvas walls, guests can fall asleep under the stars, fully immersed in the Delta’s nocturnal sounds and beauty.
Xigera Safari Lodge is more than a safari destination; it’s a celebration of Botswana’s natural splendor and artistic heritage, offering a stay that’s as enriching as it is extraordinary.
