Serra Cafema

Speke says – “Serra Cafema is one of Namibia’s most incredible lodges located in one of the most magical parts of Africa. The standard of accommodation, food and service are superb, and the staff are a joy to spend time around. If you have a bucket-list you need to add Serra Cafema to it, it doesn’t get any better!”

It is difficult to image being somewhere more remote than Serra Cafema, only accessed by light aircraft and hundreds of kilometres from anywhere. The lodge is located in the very north of Namibia in the Skeleton Coast/Kaokoveld area, within the 300,000-hectare Marienfluss Conservancy which is primary owned by the Himba people. Positioned on the banks of the Kunene River it is difficult to image a more picturesque and stunning location.

There are a vast range of fantastic activities on offer with amazing expert guides including day and night nature drives where you may see cape fox, springbok, Nile crocodile, gemsbok, chameleon and many more lizards and desert living animals. Birdlife is here is very impressive with a mix water and desert birds. Further activities include boating on the Kunene River, exploring the sand dunes on foot, quad biking, birdwatching on the river and in the desert and visits to a Himba community.

The main lodge is a wood and thatch building, right on the banks of the river and shaded by large trees. Here you will find the bar, a small library, gift shop, comfortable lounge with fireplace and dining area. At the front there is long deck that is often used for al-fresco dining and at the water’s edge is a lovely sunken lounge, the perfect place to sit back and enjoy your surroundings. To the left of the lodge is a small swimming pool with sun loungers which is a delight on a hot day.

The eight luxury villas, reached by impressive raised wooden walkways, are all built on stilts to afford an elevated view of the river which is stunning. These are constructed of wood, canvas and thatch and are huge. Within the room you will find tea and coffee making facilities, a ceiling and standing fan, mini safe, writing desk and chair and ensuite facilities including twin washbasins, a toilet, and an indoor and outdoor shower. The double glass doors can be rolled back which leads to an enormous deck with sun loungers, a dining table and chairs and a large comfortable lounge.
