Chobe Savannah Lodge
- 4 Star
- Best from April to October
- Large rooms and great communal facilities on the opposite side to the river to the other lodges in this side of the park
Chobe Savannah Lodge has an enviable location, as it gives fantastic access to Chobe National Park, away from the busy main area of Kasane. That’s because it is actually located in the Eastern Caprivi in Namibia, though access is via a motor boat transfer of one hour from Kasane.
The lodge hosts only 26 guests, further adding to the feeling of solitude, and has 10 chalets plus two family units (children of all ages are able to stay at this lodge). Each chalet has a verandah positioned to make the most of the views – we particularly like rooms 3,4 and 5, and all are en-suite, with a small complimentary mini bar and tea and coffee making facilities to allow for uninterrupted wildlife viewing out on the deck during the down time between safari activities. We like that each chalet also has air-conditioning and fans – a great touch for the hotter summer months when temperatures increase dramatically. Wifi is available in the main lodge, but has limited connectivity in the rooms themselves.
The main area boasts a recent addition in the form of an outdoor dining deck, and guests can eat here in the evening after first gathering at the camp fire at the front of the lodge for post-safari chat with other guests. The lodge also has a bar, curio shop and viewing deck, as well as a centrally located pool which is popular during those summer months.
Activities available here include boat cruises (each boat is one of the smallest on the river, allowing them to get into the smaller channels that larger boats cannot), birding, fishing on a catch and release basis and cultural excursions to the local Namibian community nearby. Note that no game drives operate from this lodge due to it’s location, but as the major highlight of the Chobe region is the boat cruises, we think the trade-off for the feeling of exclusivity really pays off.
