Andersson’s at Ongava
- 5 Star
- Best from April to October
- Stunning accommodation with superb staff
Anderssons’s camp is located on the fantastic 125 square mile Ongava private reserve which borders Etosha National Park and is one of four excellent accommodation options here. This is the only fenced property on the reserve, so it is quite safe to walk between the rooms and the main area of camp on your own. There is a variety of wildlife within the reserve including lion, black and white rhino, elephant, giraffe, and several species of antelope to name just a few.
Activities available include guided wildlife drives into the private reserve and into Etosha, nature walks, rhino tracking on foot and visits to the Ongava research centre (this is based at Andersson’s). Wildlife drives in the private reserve are particularly rewarding with regular sightings of lion and rhino and the expert guides are superb.
The main area of camp is several buildings in a semi-circle which looks out over the nearby waterhole that is frequented by a variety of wildlife day and night. The centrepiece is the large firepit, the perfect spot to enjoy pre, and post-dinner drinks. Around the firepit is the dining room, bar and lounge with WiFi, and the open fronted building provides excellent views out over the bush. Outside you will find the infinity pool area with sun-loungers and finally, there is a magnificent sunken hide just next to the waterhole which provides a water level view of wildlife visiting the waterhole, an incredible experience.
The eight huge and luxurious suites, including one family room, are absolutely stunning. All suites have a wraparound veranda with 180-degree views of the surrounding bush and waterhole. This is the most magical place to spend time viewing the wildlife and relaxing. Within the rooms you will find twin-beds, a lounge with a tv linked to the waterhole, tea and coffee making facilities, mini safe and air-conditioning. Ensuite facilities include a double washbasin, toilet, and indoor and outdoor shower.
