Ongava Lodge
- 4 Star
- Best from April to October
- Private reserve with amazing wildlife
Ongava lodge is located on the fantastic 125 square mile Ongava private reserve which borders Etosha National Park and is one of four excellent accommodation options here (Andersson’s being the other that we feature although we would have no hesitation recommending the other two, little Ongava & tented camp). The lodge has a commanding position, on top of a small hill with absolutely stunning views. There is a variety of wildlife within the reserve including lion, black and white rhino, elephant, giraffe, and several species of antelope to name just a few.
Activities available include guided wildlife drives into the private reserve and into Etosha, nature walks, rhino tracking on foot and visits to the Ongava research centre. Wildlife drives in the private reserve are particularly rewarding with regular sightings of lion and rhino and the expert guides are superb.
The main part of the lodge, an impressive wood beam and thatch construction, is where you will the comfortable lounge with fireplace, bar, and dining area. This is completely open at the front to afford fantastic views over the reserve. There is also a large deck, with firepit for pre and post dinner drinks, that overlooks the floodlit waterhole and is often used for evening meals. Down just a few steps are the swimming pool and sun lounger area which is the perfect place to relax when not out enjoying the incredible wildlife.
The 14 spacious stone and thatch chalets, including one family chalet, are dotted around the hillside, and come equipped with twin beds that face the floor to ceiling glass doors that overlook the plains. Further facilities include tea and coffee making facilities, a comfortable armchair, ceiling fan, air-conditioning, and ensuite facilities including a double washbasin, toilet, and an indoor and outdoor shower. Infront of the room is a private decked area with wicker seats and a coffee table with fantastic views of reserve.
