Cape Cross Lodge

Speke says – “This is a good mid-range lodge with a decent range of facilities, including a petrol station! With this being on the larger side it can attract group bookings and when the campsite is full as well the main areas can get busy, but it is great value for money, clean and comfortable so should not be dismissed.”

Cape Cross Lodge is positioned just metres from the Atlantic Ocean, located around an hour half north of Swakopmund on an easy to access part of the Skeleton Coast. While not as wild and remote as some of the Skeleton Coast options this is very good value for money and right next to the Cape Cross Seal Reserve which is well worth a visit while in the area. Other activities available here include excursions to the various shipwrecks of the area, the Messum volcanic crater, tours into the Namib desert and even a visit to the onsite museum that houses the remnants of past settlers in the area.

Within the central area of the lodge, you will find a large bar and lounge, with fireplaces for the cooler times of year, and a dining area. Downstairs there is a wine cellar with a good selection of wines and spirits. Outside there is a terrace with protective screens (this is quite an exposed area and being right on the sea front it is often windy) to allow guests to enjoy a drink or dine with fantastic sea views.

There are 20 rooms in total here, including two suites. Four of the rooms have interleading doors so ideal for families. There is also a two-bedroom self-catering cottage available which again would be ideal for families. The rooms are relatively simple but clean and very comfortable with ensuite facilities include a toilet and shower. The two suites are very similar but much larger. All of the rooms have direct sea views and the top floor rooms have a balcony with chairs the ground floor rooms have a veranda and chairs that lead straight onto the beach.
