Mowani Mountain Camp
- 4 Star
- Best from April to October
- Beautiful area and high standards
Mowani is very similar to its sister camp, Kipwe and is equally as impressive. Only a few kilometres from Kipwe the location to the key attractions of the area is very good and the setting is breath-taking. Perched high on a rocky outcrop between the Ugab and Huab rivers the camp is nestled among large granite boulders and really blends in with the surroundings. With 15 rooms, including two suites, this is slightly larger and presents an option with more differing room categories.
The main building, two large dome-thatched rondavels, is where you will find the main comfortable lounge and dining area and just below is a small and very inviting swimming pool and decking area, all built between the rocks with stunning views. The sundowner spot has to be seen to be believed and there is nothing more pleasant than sitting on cushions while drinks and snacks are served enjoying the scenery. Finally, there is a campfire area that is the perfect for pre-dinner drinks once the sun has set. The guided activities from the lodge (payable locally) are very good here with highlights including guided nature drives in search of desert adapted elephant and rhino.
The 15 rooms, all en-suite, are made up of five ‘standard view rooms’ which are located lower, overlooking boulders, three ‘view rooms’ that are built around large rocks and have some views of the surroundings. The four superior rooms are located at the edge of camp and have some of the most stunning views of the landscape. The luxury room has a private deck and dividing wall for added privacy and the mini suite is a large, thatched rondavel with a private air-conditioned lounge with a minibar and air-conditioning. Finally, the Mountain suite is a beautifully designed and large room with spectacular 360-degree views and an open-air bathroom. This suite also has a private lounge with mini-bar, air-conditioning, satellite tv and open-air bathroom.
