Hakusembe has a beautiful location on the banks of the Kavango River and is generally the first stop after Etosha, on the way to explore more of the Caprivi Strip. This is a relatively simple lodge, with beautiful gardens, but is very comfortable and the service is warm and welcoming. For those that like a slower pace a stay of two nights is very pleasant and there are a number of activities on offer including sunset and sunrise cruises, birdwatching boat trips, visits to a local village and fishing.

At the entrance of the lodge there is the reception and fairly large gift shop, and then on the riverbank the impressive and large central thatched building. Here you will find the the well-stocked bar and dining room. There is an expansive deck that wraps around this building where meals are often served, weather permitting, and the views over the river and surroundings from here are particularly pleasant. To the side is a small but lovely sandy beach with a firepit and then among the manicured gardens you will find the swimming pool and sun lounger area.

There are 20 chalets, including triple and quad family rooms, with half of these facing the river and the other half set back with garden views. Within the rooms there are twin beds, mini safe, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and air-conditioning. Ensuite facilities include a toilet and shower, and the room is finished with a veranda with seating.
