Chada Katavi

Speke says – “This is a super option for Katavi, probably the best in the park between the two, and is a great combination between comfort and wild adventure. You will want for nothing here and you will have an amazing safari adventure. Fantastic camp staff and guides and an overall excellent choice for Katavi.”

Chada camp, one of only two accommodation options to speak of in Katavi, is owned and operated by Nomad Tanzania, a top safari operator with a well-deserved reputation of superb staff and some of the best wildlife guides anywhere in Africa. Chada has a fantastic location among acacia and tamarind trees at the edge of huge plains that stretch for miles. The camp follows a traditional setup with two large tents, set on extensive decking, in the communal areas. One with a comfortable lounge and the other a dining tent, although meals are often served al-fresco at various points around the camp. There is also a firepit area that is the perfect place to relax while enjoying pre-dinner drinks.

Activities available here include game drives, walking safaris and fly camping accompanied by some of the best guides in the business. Fly camping is a pre-booked back-to-basics camping experience that is a basic but comfortable open-air tent away from the main camp, with a long drop toilet and bucket shower. Accompanied by a professional guide and small team you will be able to experience campfire cooking and a night well and truly under the stars – an experience which we highly recommend.

The six spacious canvas tents are set on raised wooden decks, amongst the trees with partial views of the plains, and all come with either a double or twin beds and a writing desk and chair. En-suite facilities include a flushing toilet and a bucket-style shower on demand. Finally, the room has a decent-sized decked area with canvas chairs which is a great spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
