Beho Beho Lodge

Speke says – “It doesn’t get any better in the Selous, perhaps even in Tanzania, than Beho Beho. The standard of accommodation, service and food is 5 star throughout and we couldn’t recommend it more. As with many things, you get what you pay for, and a stay here doesn’t come cheap but if you want to push the boat out there are few better places to do so.”

Beho Beho, the first permanent lodge to be located in the northern sector of Neyerere, is a very high-quality lodge that offers exceptional standards of accommodation and service. Unlike many options in Nyerere Beho Beho is not located on or near a body of water but on a hill, that offers a cool breeze, with some of the most amazing views over the park. The camp is unique in that it sits in the centre of five different eco-systems, riverine, mountainous, water systems, open and lightly wooded savannah, and mixed to miombo woodland. Because of the different eco-systems, the area is superb for a mix of excellent wildlife sightings. Safari activities here include shared walking, boat and vehicle drives with fantastic and friendly resident expert guides.

The main building, in the style of a large private house, is where you will find a comfortable lounge, bar and a full-sized billiards table. The most notable thing, as with many parts of Beho Beho, is that there are few walls ensuring fantastic views over the reserve. Outside of the main part of the lodge you will find a water hole that is frequented by all creatures great and small and to the side is the lovely swimming pool and covered dining area although, communal meals are served in a number of different places around the lodge, often al-fresco.

The seven very large rooms, or bandas as they referred, are stone built and palm thatch cottages which are beautifully decorated and all have a king-sized beds, Zanzibari day beds, writing desks, WiFi and comfortable suite furniture. The front of the banda is completely open to enjoy the stunning views and extends on to a spacious veranda as well as a separate and fantastic plunge pool. During the night the banda can be secured or left open although leaving this open is a fantastic experience. The en-suite facilities include a separate dressing room which leads to twin basins, flushing toilet, and an amazing open-air shower. For those that prefer more privacy or are travelling in a small group the luxury private two-bedroom bailey’s banda offers an exceptional option and comes with its own private swimming pool, private activities and a kitchen and private chef.
