Rufiji River Camp

Speke says – “This is a decent all-round option with good home cooking style meals, great service and good guides and it is excellent value for money. This option is particularly child friendly.”

Rufiji River camp, as the name suggests, is located on the banks of the mighty Rufiji River and is a great all-round camp with a range of decent facilities. With 14 guest tents including three suites, this is slightly larger than many of the options available, but the communal areas are very large, so this doesn’t feel particularly busy when full or near-full occupancy. The large central building, made from wood and thatch is two story with the top floor home to a number of comfortable lounge areas with fantastic views of the river and wildlife, hippo and crocodile being frequent residents of the area. On the extensive ground floor you will find a bar and dining area and in front of the building there is a large stone terrace with a firepit and riverfront seating, the perfect places to relax and enjoy the surroundings. There is also a shady swimming pool which is lovely to cool off in when not our on a safari adventure. Activities available here include walking, boat and vehicle safaris.

The 11 large classic tents are well spaced out along the river and positioned among the bush with some views of the river. Each come with two double beds, floor standing fan, a writing desk, plug sockets and an expansive decked veranda with table and chairs. The large en-suite facilities include a flushing toilet, washbasin and solar powered shower. The three suites, or family rooms, have two large tents on a shared platform with private plunge pool which is fantastic. With this option this is particularly family friendly.
