Savuti

Tim says – Savuti sits at the heart of Botswana’s wilderness — a place where you witness the raw dynamics of predator and prey up close. It’s not always gentle, but it’s deeply real, and that honesty is what makes it so captivating.”

The famous Savuti region of Botswana is a remote region of Chobe National Park, however, the experience it offers is very different from the Chobe Riverfront area. The area is fed by the Savuti Channel – an unpredictable waterway which can go several years without flowing to the Savuti Marsh itself.

Wildlife viewing here lives up to it’s reputation, with vast herds of elephant making their way to the few permanent water features, and lion, leopard and wild-dog sightings a frequent fixture. Though the Savuti region is a 5-6 hour car journey from Kasane, this region does attract more visitors who are willing to self-drive (the more common option for those not on mobile safaris is to fly in to the smaller airstrips). So, whilst this area is not as exclusive as the Okavango Delta,

it is a great choice for those wanting to maximise chances of seeing higher numbers of predators on your safari. Some of Botswana’s finest lodges are here, solidifying the area as a great choice for top class safari. The nearby Tsodoli Hills have one of the highest concentrations of ancient rock-art in the world and some lodges offer this as an additional excursion.
