Nxai Pan
- 4 Star
- Best from April to October
- The only lodge inside the park, meaning best access to this less-visited area. Comfortable and great service.
The only permanent lodge inside the Nxai Pan National Park, Nxai Pan Lodge is situated beside a large waterhole which attracts increasing volumes of wildlife particularly in the Green Season as the annual zebra migration progresses into the area. Nxai Pan combines open-plan spaces and airy, modern decor which the designers took inspiration took direct inspiration from the bleached salt pans it sits on. The main area’s focal point is a raised deck which overlooks a waterhole – perfect for lazy afternoons in between activities. There is also a swimming pool, lounge and bar area, together with a firepit which has also been strategically placed for views over the waterhole.
There are only 9 thatched suites, including 1 family suite, all of which have private viewing decks with outside seating and a clear view of the waterhole. Each room also has a spacious lounge with fans (no air conditioning), tea and coffee facilities and a writing desk for journalling your daily sightings. Everyone dines together at the long dining table in the main area, with some meals being served under the stars to make the most of this remote location. Activities on offer include game drives (on-road and no night drives as this is inside the National Park), Bushman-led nature walks and full day visits to Baine’s Baobabs, where the outlook has changed remarkably little since David Livingstone visited 150 years ago. Nxai Pan will appeal to safari-goers travelling in the Green Season, and in particular repeat visitors to Botswana are in for a treat.
